The Managing Director of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), Ms Hadiza Usman, has stated that the authority will immediately commence the recruitment of younger professionals into the service in view of the ageing workforce.

Usman made the disclosure at a news conference to round off her ongoing tour of Calabar port, which ended on Friday.

According to her, there is a lot of skills and knowledge that need to be transfered and we should be able to transfer knowledge and skills.

Usman said that the authority would embark on recruitment drive and look at the organisational structure to determine how the recruitment would be carried out.

She said that the management was looking at succession planning and recruitment of people.

“We encourage every member of the public to be on the look-out for the advertisement of vacancies and to apply,” Miss Usman said.

The Authority, a government owned agency with offices in the under-listed locations is charged with the responsibility of ensuring, among others, security of lives and properties:

Responsibilities, among others are:

*Provision of operational security support for the organization
*Legislative compliance with security related protocols, conventions, codes etc.
*Coordination of the activities of the Security Department in conformity with international best

NPA Education Qualifications:

*Minimum of B.Sc/HND in any of the social sciences
*10 years experience in Military/Law enforcement agency with 5 years in management position
in the rank not lower than Lt. Col/Asst. Commissioner of Police/Director, State Security

ABOUT NPA: Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) is a federal government establishment that are charged with responsibilities of  regulating and functions the Nigeria ports.  Below are the leading ports possessed by the NPA which include the following. the Lagos Port Complex and Tin Can Island Port in Lagos; Calabar Port, Delta Port, Rivers Port at Port Harcourt, and Onne Port.

It should be noted that the Operations of the NPA are carried out in collaboration with the Nigerian Ministry of Transport and with the Nigerian Shippers’ Council. The head office of the Nigerian Ports Authority are situated in Lagos.

The Nigerian ports Authority (NPA) was established in 1954 by ports Act ( Cap 155 of the law of the Federation of Nigeria –amended 1999 ) as an operating port charges with the responsibility  of providing all port services across the federation

Initially was responsible for two major ports in Lagos and Port Harcourt, then in 1969 it became responsible for all other ports owned by private merchant companies e.g Warri,koko Burutu and Sapele.
